Whenever I tell a person how I make my living, the initial reaction is a roll of the eyes, followed by an icky noise, "yech!" (or something similar), and completed with an overview of his or her feelings about English, "I hated English," "...my worst subject," or my favorite, "ew." Those who respond in such a way are similar to the types of students who I'm trying to reach.

I decided to be a teacher because I thought it would be fun. In college I helped several people write papers and interpret texts for classes, I also had several great professors who truly enjoyed what they were doing and transferred that love to their students. I became a better student because of them, and they inspired me to teach.
